I was reading a magazine (Family Circle)

yesterday

and the article was entitled,

"Be Happy Now";

then it listed

"5 Simple Mood-boosting Strategies".
Number 3 on the list was

"Know your hot-button issues".
I also think it should have said,

"and know your spouses

hot-button issues". Just sayin'. . .

One would assume most people would

know this. 

Have we not all been taught

it's not good to discuss

Sex, Politics, and Religion

in a group of people?

Did anyone's Mother never say:
"You don't talk negatively about

other peoples family, EVEN IF

they are talking negatively about them".

"You don't ask about weight.  Ever."
And you certainly "NEVER
ask a woman her age"
OR
"when her baby is due!!"
(she might not actually be pregnant. Oy!)

And in some circles you don't

discuss Sports Teams. (?)

I styled my hair differently today.
I parted it a bit deeper and left a bit of my forehead peeking through my "swept" bangs.  Oops!  My daughter says they're no longer called "bangs"; they're "fringe". 
I digress.

Mister:  (squinting at my face)  What's wrong?
Princess:  (squinting at my face)  What's wrong where?
Mister:   There. (pointing to my forehead)  Is that a scar?
Princess:  DAD!  (scolding)  It's a wrinkle, not a scar!
Me:  Excuse me?  I can hear you!!

"Yes. I heard you loud and clear!"

  

Jumping in!

Here I go - jumpin' in with both feet!
"Ready or not, here I come!!"

Yesterday an acquaintance posted this on her FB page:

"(dad) just brought the big boys (ages 5 & 7, I think) to the shooting range for the first time so that they can learn to shoot their new guns. I am glad that they get to make fun memories together but it makes this Mama a little nervous."

To which I replied:  "????? ewwww!"

This was quickly followed by a post from another
acquaintance:  "My boys have been shooting guns since they were very young. I am VERY thankful their dad invested many hours into their lives teaching them safety with guns, how to shoot and handle a gun properly. It would make me more nervous if he had not. Not only did they learn about guns & how to shoot, they learned life lessons with their dad and spent many hours bonding as father & son. I am excited for your guys, and for you as mom. These times are priceless! I promise it's more than shooting guns. When your boys are grown they will tell you "all" they learned during those times with their dad. When the time is right & you can, you should join them ;)"

There were other posts to follow which ALL "sided' with this train of thought".

I felt a bit attacked and posted:
 "I'm thinking there are lots of ways for fathers and sons to bond. We have 2 grown sons and when they were kids they spent lots of "father and son" time on the soccer field, at the ball park, in scouting, working around the house, bicycling, playing tennis, school projects, etc. None of this included guns, except for shooting cans with a BB gun. Just some other things to consider. I have a very personal story of heartbreak involving guns so admittedly I could be biased. But, just saying "there are options" that provide rich opportunities for children and their parents to make lasting memories and learn "life lessons". Certainly there is nothing wrong with going to a shooting range with a parent - no criticism intended. But if it makes you uncomfortable . . ."

*Now I'll leave it be.*

I live in Louisiana and this is a very common sport here.
I understand the 2nd ammendment and the right to bear arms.
I understand hunting for things you will eat.
I understand shooting at gun ranges.
I understand teaching/learning the proper
way to handle a gun.

But what I don't understand is shooting
simply to kill.  Why kill a living, breathing, being
just because you can?
I understand war and the atrocities
that go along with protecting
and keeping us free.
My Dad served in WWII

and when he came home from the war
he never wanted a gun in our house.
While there is certainly the right to bear arms
there is also the right to NOT bear arms.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT when people
post photos on FB which show their 8 yr old
child proudly holding up a dead animal
they have shot.
Nope.  I don't get that
and never will.

It's not easy to have your birthday on Dec. 25.

But one of my favorite friends does just that.

Mister's favorite movie is, "It's a Wonderful Wife Life".  If you knew Mister you would say it's the "perfect fit" for him. We watch it every year on Christmas Eve. We've seen it so many times that we can recite many of the lines as we watch.

This hangs in our dining room to remind us,

"no man is a failure who has friends".

This is over our Entry Way

and was a gift from friends.

This is my all-time favorite.

I love the simple children,

simple music,

and the simple, important, message.

The fact that it's only 25 min. long

makes it for people of all ages.

Spoiler:  this is a bit gross!

Many of you asked questions about my THUMB.

When I snipped off the end of my thumb

it would not stop bleeding so I made a

trip to the ER.  The cut was not straight

across my thumb, but rather it scooped inward

in the middle of the thumb, cup-like.

The Doctor cleaned it then put something

on it to help stop the bleeding.

THEN filled the whole scooped out section

with Neosporin.  He told me I was to do this

each day and showed me how to wrap it.

He also told me

MY THUMB WOULD GROW BACK!
He showed me his thumb,

telling me he had done the exact same thing

during the summer with shrub clippers.

Not only did my thumb grow back,

it didn't even scar.

AMAZING!!

Be sure to have Santa leave some Neosporin
in your stocking.
I use it for every type of Boo-Boo.
And if you use it faithfully
you will seldom have a scar.

I had intended to end today's post here, then I remembered a previous "wrapping day" several years ago.  I was totally into the process.  I remember it clearly. . .I was wrapping gifts for our neighbors.  I tied the gold ribbon into a big bow and with a flourish reached to snip the ends of the ribbon and
CUT OFF THE TIP OF MY THUMB!!

True story.
Never found the "tip".  LOL|
Made a trip to the ER and left with a hugedressing on my thumb.
The family called me "Nub"
