Today on the Bayou

Anyone feeling a bit like this?

Thanksgiving and Christmas is a lot of fun
AND
(forgive me for stating the obvious), it's also a LOT of work!

I've done most of my shopping online this year and that's simplified things dramatically.  I've also reduced my baking to just one type of Christmas Cookie.  (OK, make that two types of cookies.)  We've also put up a smaller tree and haven't decorated the outside of our house at all.  To read this makes us sound a bit like the ol' green Grinch, but that's actually not the case at all.  We're still having fun anticipating Christmas and being around our family.  Things are very good here, but time for all the "extras" is almost non-existent, so we cut back where we can so we CAN enjoy the most important things.

Me with our Granddolls and Lil' Mama.
Fun times during Thanksgiving holiday!

All these lovely girls are at the top of my Christmas List.  We absolutely could never "cut back" here!

Have you done anything to "cut back" during this year's Christmas season?  I'd love to hear what you've done.

She is just adorable!
I'm not doing nearly as much baking and decorating either, but it still feels so busy. I can't seem to figure out how to make that better. :)

Look how BIG she's getting!!! What a cutie pie!!!
I'm not worrying about the outside this year. I put out my flags, mailbox cover, and wreath, but that's it. I don't "think" I'm baking as much this year, but I haven't started so I'm not sure! :)

All those grand dolls are so cute...lucky you. I don't think we cut back at all. I actually think my spending got out of control. LOL

Let me say with that little cutie pie - that is all you need.

Your 'baby' is getting so big!! Don't they grow like weeds? And she is SO adorable! Love that pic of her with the strand of Christmas lights! I may try that with the quads on Wednesday. Louis Dean and I used to put lights on the house. Well, I think we did that TWICE! Now I just decorate the porch. And of course I STILL decorate inside just as I always have. No cutting back there - yet!

Looks like a fun family - and cutting back on the non-essentials so that you can better enjoy the important things makes lots of sense to me.
We also put up a much smaller tree that only took an hour to decorate, instead of the usual 4 to 6 hour marathon.
And I have not done much baking. I'm buying the good stuff instead. :) Merry Christmas.

Beautiful, beautiful family photos, Deb. I am not doing nearly as much overall as I have done other years. After having such a sick little boy nothing really seemed to matter as much as the fact that he is going to be okay. Christmas is a wonderful Holiday but it can get out of hand with crazy sometimes, too- xo Diana

We scaled way back this year also. I decorated the tree very simple. I never even got down all my storage boxes from the garage. Simple and easy but still enjoyable with the little that we have out. We are focused on what's important and not getting caught up in the hype.

You described our house. We didn't put the big tree up because it's now too big for the two of us to get out of the attic. Nativity Set is set up, a small tree and a few other decorations. I have made fudge and will make a cheesecake.

You are blessed to have that beautiful group of girls. That's all the ingredient needed for a very Merry Christmas! HK is a doll and growing up too quickly.

We've been cutting back in different places the last few years. We try to keep the spending to a reasonable amount and this year we didn't put lights out on the house, although I have a few outside decorations. The tree is simpler and there are many boxes still in the storage area filled with things I just didn't put out...and nobody has even commented on missing anything! It still looks festive and the food will still be enjoyed! Your Granddaughter is growing so fast and she's really adorable..have a wonderful Christmas with her!

Yes I do feel like that....LOL! That is one adorable little princess and a sweet Christmas photo. Well I'm going with a less is more as far as decorating my house and I will only be making one or two select cookies instead of a dozen different ones! Not necessarily cutting back money wise but cutting back on my hard work.....

Merry Christmas to you and your family, wishing you all things wonderful in 2014!

she is precious. We cut back this year too. My tree has 24 ornaments on it because it is too small. I fell Thanksgiving and it just ended any major decoration. Have a wonderful Christmas.
