Empty Shoe boxes and Old Pens

I'm pretty ruthless when I clean closets
and drawers.  It doesn't take me long
to de-clutter/purge and get things to a
manageable state.

HOWEVER,
I've noticed I have a "thang"
for shoe boxes

AND

Old pens.

I find it hard to throw either away.

I always think I'm gonna need
a good shoe box and not be
able to find one.  Probably a left-over
feeling from when our kids were small
and often needed shoe boxes for
school projects.

Old pens?
I think if it doesn't write once
it might change it's mind and
write the next time.
It's bad reasoning.  Bad.

Now that I've come to realize
these two "purging flaws"
there's not a pen nor a shoe box
which is safe the next time
I clean closets.

Anything you tend to hang on to
when you're purging things?

I save pens too, just in case they decide to write again as you said. Then one day I will get aggravated because I have all of these pens that don't write and start purging. But more pens find their way into my houses again, and the process starts all over again. I think it is some kind of pen conspiracy or something. Obviously it can't be my falut!

I will probably be saving and hoarding shoe boxes till I die, for the same reasons you mentioned.

I'm that way with clothes. When the boys outgrow them (or I do) I think I'll donate the ones still in good condition. I end up with piles in the closet because I never get around to doing it. Sad and bad of me, I know. In my old neighborhood they would leave a bag on your door once a year to fill for donations but I haven't seen one in a while. I need that bag to fill!

Hangers. It seems whenever I clean closets and get rid of a bunch then we can't find any.

I was eyeing that stack of boxes a little wistfully, thinking about all the cool dioramas I could make. Also, just saw a craft where you make clown shoes out of two shoeboxes.

Of course, the minute you get rid of them, you'll find you need them...

I keep the tissue paper that comes with things, I smooth it out and save it,, so strange because you can buy rainbows of colors and smooth as a babies bottom brand spanking new at the Dollar Store, so I'm no help.

Shoe boxes for sure! How can I throw away a shoe box when I can store stuff in them? lol. (but I never do) And yep, pens too. As a matter of fact... I go to expos and go around to the different tables and collect them. So I can store them in my house. lol. Boxes and pens. I can relate...

Once a pen doesn't write out it goes because I will pick that pen up a 100 times to use it and I get frustrated.
I hoard magazines. I always think I will go back and look at them I rarely do.

OMG! That's funny cause I have a hard time parting with pens also. SHoe boxes sometimes cause they can still be used for storage. I have a hard time purdging most all stuff..lol. I have all my old stuffed animals....in platic containers. About 8 or 9 of them...LOL!! I still have all my stuff (most of) from when I was little. I have a hard time parting. I'm a pack rat, needless to say. Not a hoarder though!! LOL You can get into my house!!!!

I am laughing - my daughter was just going to throw away a shoe box - and I got it out of the trash just in case grandson needed it. I hate to throw away pens and pencils too. Sandie

My hoarder issues have to do with clothes that I've....let's see, how should I say this?...clothes that I've outgrown? Clothes that I think I'll wear again when I lose weight? Clothes that just might come back into fashion? 1998 isn't that far back is it? Anyway, I did give a bunch away last fall. Now it's spring and I think it's time to give it another try!

PENS!!! Colored pencils!! Markers!!! AND I used to hold onto shoe boxes, but I've overcome that particular habit or whatever it is called! :-) Actually, I had a habit of saving nice, good boxes thinking that surely I will have a need for one sometime in the near future, but I've broken that habit, too! I'll post a picture of my pencils and pens soon! :-)

Erasers and pencils and pens oh my.
Those erasers dry out and don't do their job when they get too old. The pencils turn out to be the light hb type and the pens either have a leak or have nothing. Oh yes, forgot those felt pens and the pencil crayons that have been dropped a lot, broken inside the wooden shell and don't sharpen.

I am always trying to get back into my smaller clothes so I find it hard to part with them. We used to be transferred often and I would purge before we moved. We've been here 7 years so my closest are stuffed, I need to make myself do this! Have a great weekend!

I have a tendency to hold on to boxes in general. It doesn't matter how big or small they are, I keep them "just in case" I may need them again. I just moved about 5 odd-sized, large boxes into the garage yesterday! I also keep pens, scraps of paper, receipts, an anything that I think I may be able to use in a future craft project. Oh my goodness, I just figured out that I'm a hoarder.
