Burnt out on Beige

I love brown.
I love beige.
They are both forms of chocolate
so what's not to love?

When we moved into this house 8 years
ago the entire house was painted what I
call "khaki".  It was a good, basic,
"sell-your-house" color.  Over time
we have painted some of the rooms
but I have been very content with
our master bedroom which I decorated
in "kahki & black".

Then about a year ago I began to view
our bedroom through different eyes.
What I once considered "khaki"
looked "chalky-beige" to me.
"Things, they were a changin'."

The window treatments and
bed cover, which I once thought
quite stylish, had lost it's appeal.
They haven't changed,
and maybe that's the point -
it's time for a change.

I feel like I've been sleepin'
in a dingy, cheap, motel room.
  Get the idea?

We'll be painting the motel roomour bedroom
next Saturday.  Fingers crossed
that I love the new look.

Isn't it funny how our tastes change?
Guess that's why Baskin Robbins
has 32 flavors of ice cream

and Lowe's has a wall filled
with paint sample cards!

Good for you stepping out of the beige box. I have such a hard time deciding on a new color which is ok since we don't change colors too often. After 28 years of the same exterior color for our house we recently changed our shutters, both lamppost and front porch ceiling to Timber Dust and the back porch ceiling is called Spa. kind of aqua. We are very pleased.

Sounds good to me! Now, what colour are you looking at painting your bedroom? x

My bedroom is definately looking like a cheap hotel room that had an office explode in it. It's dangerous to get up in the middle of the night.

C'mon, inspire me....I need to do something, but have no motivation.

I'm feeling the same way about our bedroom. Can't wait to see pictures of the finished project!

My entire house is painted the same color, Calla Lilly. Except my kitchen, which is Lavender and purple. After years of this color, I was thinking of going with uhh, beige. Have fun with your painting project. Take pictures of the process, because if you're like us, something crazy will happen.

I lean toward more color is better. The livingroom I loved most ( 8 years) had that deep hunter green walls with white trim, with burgundy furniture. Our bedroom was yellow walls with white trim and blues in linens.

I've had a burgundy bedroom that I used a feather duster dipped in gold paint to feather swirl the walls. I'm a brave soul. It's only paint. You can change it.

That will be such an exciting and fun change. I've never changed my bedroom in 16 years. Maybe I can talk hubby into a change too.

Hugs & love,
Mimi

PS - if you haven't entered I'm having a Shutterfly card giveaway on my blog with 3 winners.

I just repainted my livingroom...it's been 10yrs so I thought it was time~after painting it I realized the color was nothing that I thought it would be...but I'm too lazy to repaint again so I think I'll hang with it for...well...for maybe 10 more years...or not! Good luck!

Color can be a bit frightening, can't it? The good thing is that it's just paint, and it can be redone if you don't like it!

I have had the same color of green in my room for years now, and I have only recently begun to hate it. I guess my tastes have changed, as well!

O, Tea...I absolutely LOVE your cute personality...and your blog is so fun to come to...unlike a cheap motel room. :)))

Can't wait to see your new color....

O, and meant to say that my guest bedroom is looking like a flea bag motel room and I am just about to bite the bullet and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT...see, you give me inspiration...:)

It sounds like you are inspiring a lot of us to do a little redecorating, including me. I really need to make a change in the bedroom, but I live with a man whose mantra is "but what's wrong with white?"

Can't wait to see your new room! About the time I get one room done, I'm ready to start on another. Then by the time they're all done, I'm tired of the one I did first and the vicious cycle starts all over again. Drives my husband nuts! ;-)

There's an old, old joke about painting a bedroom ceiling beige but I won't go into that here. Now what color ARE your going to be spffing that room up with? And, of course, that means all new bedding ..right?

Everytime I look at the walls and border in my bedroom, I say "what was I thinking?". I am definitely ready for a change but it will probably not happen until the summer. :)

So true about tastes changing! I wish my pocket book matched my creativity, lol. About 3 years ago we were going to sell our home and painted the whole house cream color (neautral of course) and all rooms remain that way today! LOL
My poor bedroom has no pictures in it at all. But at least the girl's rooms are decorated right? LOl
Have a great night!

Blessings,
Jill
