Update

Blogging from my ipad so I will apologize for typos in advance.
I am spending the day at the hospital.

Our sweet new Granddoll continues in the NICU but will probably be ready to come home on Monday.  YAY!!

Her little Mama is not doing so well.  She continues to have complications from having 3 epidurals during the birthing process - she is leaking spinal fluid, which in turn gives her horrible headaches, severe dizziness, and she has fainted 8 times.  Yesterday they performed a procedure on her called a "blood patch".  Have you heard of this before?  This was something new to me.  They actually removed blood from her arm and then gave her yet another epidural and fed this blood into her spine to clot all the previous epidurals.  When she awoke she felt wonderful - headache and all dizziness was gone!  But she awoke this morning to another awful headache and the dizziness has returned.  Not sure what comes next.  I'm sure this can be resolved but in the meantime she is feeling awfully sick.  We'd appreciate your prayers.

Thanks Bloggy friends!!

Great news that your granddaugher should be home next week but not so good for your daughter. Hope they get things sorted out soon and that they'll both be home soon. Keeping you and your family in my prayers - you're certainly going through a few things at the moment, it'll be good to get back to "normal" (whatever that may be!) xx

Oh- That is so awful. That is one of the bad side effects of the epidurals. I hope it passes quickly for her. They may do another patch treatment, too. I can't wait until you get your sweet baby home along with your daughter- xo Diana

I have never heard of the"blood patch" procedure but I hope it works to get your daughter feeling better fast. I hope everything resolves quickly for both mom and baby and that you can all get home.

I have heard of a blood patch. It's too bad she ended up with a spinal headache but usually the patch will make it all better. I'm sure they'll try again. 3 epidural is a bit much. I had a spinal headache after my c-section but back when Lincoln was in office they just gave you tons of fluids. It took about 3wks before it was totally gone. Thank goodness they can do the patch now! Make sure she gets tons of rest before the baby comes home. I'll keep them in my prayers.

All of this information is news to me, but I am so sorry to hear of the problems your daughter is experiencing. Praying that the patch is working, that headaches and dizziness will disappear, and that all of you will be home very soon and getting into a routine and enjoying this little treasure.

The absolute worst I have ever felt was the results of an epidural after colon surgery! Tell her it will be better! I had actually gone home and had to go back to ER for a blood patch. I don't think they did another epidural, but I was so out of it at that point, I don't remember exactly what they did. I just remember how much better I felt when it finally worked!
Blessings and prayers sent your way,
ava

I had that after my son 38 years ago and I remember it! I could not lift my head from the pillow for about 8 days. They gave me an IV - what they needed to do was to get more fluid to replace the spinal fluid they had taken out for the epidural. I had not heard of the blood patch. No one told me to lay flat and not raise my head for a few hours after the deliver. You can bet on child number two -my head stayed flat for a few hours.

She will be okay - I will pray - and I hope that she gets well soon. It is no picnic.

Love, sandie

I get steroid epidural injections periodically for my back pain. I've had a blood patch when they pierced the spinal column and was leaking spinal fluid. It helped me and I hope it works soon for your dear daughter! I know you are anxious but oh how lovely, a new wee one to have!
Prayers are being said and hugs to you and yours!
