SWEET TEA

On my honor I will try. . .

I was once a Girl Scout
and I have the badges to prove it.

This is not my uniform
but I wore one like it.
I proudly wore it to school
on the days of our troop meeting.
I remember Mom and I struggling
to tie the kerchief into a square knot
each time I wore it.

"On my honor, I will try:
To do my duty to God and my country,
To help other people at all times,
To obey the Girl Scout Laws."
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *

No resolutions for me this year,
but I do have some things I want
to do differently, and like the
Girl Scouts,  "On my honor
I will try . . ."

. . .to Read my Bible more .

...to have friends into my home more.

...to eat healthier.

...to take my vitamins and calcium
each day.

...to read a book occasionally,
not just blogs.

...to lose some weight
and keep it off this time.

These are not things I've resolved,
but they are things I want to try to accomplish.
I think a resolution is a promise
you make to yourself,
but to try is to give it
your best effort, knowing
that you won't always get it right.
I'm pretty sure there is a difference.

Perhaps we'd all be more motivated
if we knew we'd get a badge
to show our success to the world.
Ya think?

Any things you're trying to
do differently in the new year?

I too was a brownie and girl scout. I wish I had my badges. I do have two pins. Loved your post today.

I was never a Girl Scout but I sure do love their cookies! ;)

Like I blogged the other day, I don't really do resolutions either. But I can always TRY! :) I will continue TRYING to succeed in the following lifestyle changes:

*eating more healthily
*becoming more organized
*being nicer
*clearing out the 'clutter' (and this has nothing to do with my house...it's more of a mental thing)

Just be a better and more positive person. I can never ever keep resolutions but I think what I am doing is something I can keep up with. A friend suggested doing a grateful journal and so I started this with the lovely journal I got as a gift from hubby and I not only write in things I am grateful for but things that happened that day, even sad things. Keeps me honest and thankful.

Oh it shows where my mind goes...I was sure you were going to post about not eating Girl Scout cookies or buying as that would lead to eating. Freezing them just makes them more edible btw!

Good luck on your resolutions...I too was a Girl Scout badges and all!

I'm totally with ya' on the vitamins and calcium. Whenever I forget, my legs ache. After suffering a few days unnecessarily I remembered to take my calcium and felt better. Actually slept through the night last night. Amazing how good you feel when you actually sleep! Have a great week.

I was in scouts for 7 years. My daughters - 0. They were not interested. So.... I will try too. But, as a wise man once said " DO or Do not....there is to try" .... Yoda...

I will try to eat and be more healthy.

Good for you. 'Try' is a very short word full of promise!!
I'm going to try to do just a tad more volunteering.

Oh, I went to girls scouts once....we had the meanest leader orrrrrrr I talked too much. Either way, she put duct tape on my mouth and that was the end for me.

I want to try and do all those same things.

I think that is a good idea - try is the key word - you go softer on yourself then you don't beat yourself up and quit entirely!

I think with a good honorable try you will have lots of success. The things you are going to try to do is a good list for most all of us.

I was a Brownie in my day ;o) and I have to say, your list could virtually have been written for me. Keep trying hard and I'll try and join you x

So very true!! A badge or some sort of symbol of a goal met I think helps!

I was never a girl scout but just seeing my daughter at karate and the stripes she earns which then moves onto a new belt, what a awesome feeling to see the success!!

My goals this year is:
*To grow closer to God.
*Reading my Bible but I've already failed there. Haven't even begun this year. I do read my Jesus Calling book everyday...which I recommend if you don't have. Wonderful daily devotional book.
*Learn to pray better.
*Eat healthier to also lose the extra 10 lbs that I gained back from losing 35 lbs.

Good luck on yours :o)

I was a Girl Scout but no longer have my uniform or sash. I remember sewing on all the badges. I was such a perfectionist, I had to get them all perfectly spaced!
