"What are you doing the rest of your life?
North and south and east and west of your life?
I have only one request of your life
That you spend it all with me."
~Legrand/Bergman/Bergman
Does anyone remember this old Streisand song?
I've always loved Streisand music, still do.
Mister and I have been having this very conversation more often as of late. When we moved to Louisiana 9 years ago it was our plan to live here until he retired, then to move back to Oklahoma, where we are from. It never occurred to us that we would fall in love with Louisiana and want to stay here. Then it happened - we love it here! So we began to think that perhaps we would simply stay here in our new "comfort zone". Now, considering our issues with Mom, we see the importance of living near at least part of one's family, if at all possible. Sooooooo, we have the "where should we plan our future" conversation with more frequency. We still have several years before we need to make this BIG decision.
When you look through your crystal ball where do you think you'll be living in 10 years? Are you firmly planted where you are, or do you foresee a possible change of location for you?

Especially with the changes in my life, I am firmly planted. I'm so planted that I'm making permanent improvements to my spot. Feel free to come by my blog and keep track of the remodel as I photo blog it. Glad you have a few more years to make your decision. I'm sure it will be right for you and your family.
I think I am pretty firmly planted in Colorado....all my kids and their families are here and it really is a great place to live. I have been here nearly 30 years.
That is a question I have pondered over the past few years and "saw" us downsizing back over into the neighborhood where we used to live. However, DH has decided he likes it where we are and I am left wondering how I will deal with handling everything when the time comes. This is a topic that can cause me some anxiety if I dwell on it.
I am rooted so deep here in my home I doubt a bulldozer could pull me out. I have lived in this very house since I was 18 years old and I will soon be 65. I hope I get to stay here forever. Louis Dean and I are working hard to get it all in good order. Combining households and just the issues of home ownership has taken its toll. We have dealt with flooding in the den, redoing my bathroom and our bedroom, fixing a gazebo, yard work is never ending and today we had our huge trees trimmed. I hope in 2 years we will be in maintenance mode. He will be 79 and I will be 67. Amber said that someday we may need to live with them. I am SO happy they now have a BIG house!!! :)
Since the Superhero and I are both natives of our hometown and have lived here all our lives, I just can't see us going anywhere.
We have that conversation a couple of times a month. We are both California natives, but it's so expensive to live here, it's a poorly run state, etc. AND - every one of our children live in other states. For now, our parents are here, and we own our house now, so no immediate plans to move, but we never say never. You just can't beat the weather though...
Nope, not rooted at all-and hubs and I have "THIS" discussion quite a bit. I moved to this house 2 years ago sight unseen (either trusting or crazy???) Lots to be done on a tight budget so not sure how I feel about staying here. Daughter and two grands are across the state (we lived by them from little years to when the oldest was going into her jr year)..fell in love with it there but dad, a sister and two sons live on THIS end of the state. IDK, we have at least 5 1/2 years to even thinking of retiring. I'll get back to ya then!
Hmmm...10yrs huh? Well, I don't think we'll be in this house in 10yrs. 6 acres is alot when I think that we'll be 70 in 10yrs. 3 out of 4 kiddos live here with the Grandkiddos. In 10yrs however, anything can happen. If we are still in this area, I'm thinking it will be condo living...whoa..I just got a chill down my spine thinking of that! Maybe a small house and yard..guess we need to do some talking and thinking on this question!
Sweet Tea - First, Thank you for the really nice comments you left me the other day. I appreciate it!
Second, we are planted - hopefully, until they "plant us" for good. Just under two years ago we moved under very difficult circumstances of family illness. It was a hard move, but God was faithful to guide, and we truly feel we "landed" where we were supposed to be. :)
Hope your decision turns out well. blessings to you - Marsha
I would love to be at a place surrounded by my kids but I have a feeling that that's not going to be where I'll be in 10 years. I hope though, that J and I will be near the coast, living a more sedate life since he will be retired by then and going into ministry full time. I definitely don't see us moving out of Oregon which makes me jump for joy.
LOL-My vision changes from day to day. I would like to be planted here for part of the year and in Florida for the rest of the year- xo Diana
I think it is good to think about the future.
For us it is GA - we have all the plans made for the future.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like Washington is the place for us. I have been very happy this last year and I hope G has been too. I think he is. We will know very soon if it's permanent. Whatever happens, we'd love to see you all soon! <3
Wishing you all the best in your decision making. We've moved many times and it's certainly not always an easy choice to make!
Blessings,
Jill
I'm here until son leaves for college (2 years) and daughter finishes college (3 years). About that time, the new Metro stops opening in January 2014 will have increased the value of my house that I'll be able to live my dream...going to live in the mountains. Oh wait. Biking in the mountains might not be my cup of tea.
At any rate, my plan is 3-5 years, and we'll go elsewhere. The pace of life around here is too stressful.
You notice, I said my plan. DH intends to work until he drops. SO yes, lots of conversations as well.
