Just because I KNOW U want to know. . .

Monday is when we fly into NYC.
I've been reading reviews and scheduling the tours, shows, etc.  I think I know what to expect, but occasionally I can be  totally wrong  just a little sideways when it comes to expectations.  I thought it would be fun to write out my thoughts pre-trip and compare them to reality, post-trip.

Here's what I expect:

Flights:  Smooth, turbulence-free flights, going and coming.  Sure hope I get this one right!!
(I hate to fly.)

Hotel:  Beautiful, clean room.  Ritzy place.  Slow elevators.

NYC in general:  Crowded. Impersonal. Cranky shop owners.  Much like Chicago by day, except bigger, busier, and dirty.  Much like Vegas at night (Love the lights!). Over-priced. Noisy.

NYC specifically:  Beautiful landmarks.
Diverse population.

Favorite sight:  Statue of Liberty

NYC food:  I think I will be the only one in our group who doesn't care much for it.

I know that some of my thoughts are negative, but I want to be entirely honest and you know I am not a good traveler.  That said, I am anxious to see NYC.  It's one of those places I have seen in movies and heard about all my life.  I look forward to seeing it with my own eyes!  I also look forward to experiencing it with Mister (this is sort of an Anniversary trip), and with Princess and our oldest Grandaughter.  This is good stuff!

You can be sure there will be stories and photos when I'm home again.  Now, I'm off to pack!

I think the people will be nicer and the elevators faster than you are expecting. I hope the flight is just as smooth and uneventful as you are hoping.
Have a wonderful time.

I know it would be a lot different than here, we are small.town.America! But I would be pumped, wanting to see it all, taste it all, do it all! I have a pair of rose colored glasses that I wear and it makes it ALL GOOD! Do you want me to overnight them to you for the trip next week? Have a great time!

Good Morning Sweetie...
I can't wait to see the photos you bring back. It is going to be an experience I just know.

I too have always wanted to visit there. I would love a ride in Central Park, and imagine Times Square. Lots and lots and lots of people.

Have a smooth flight, and a GREAT time, wonderful meals and tours and shows and the best part of all. ENJOY family time together.

I will be waiting for your return and all the stories to share. Keep that camera clicking. Many hugs and so much love, Sherry

Safe travels and we look forward to your post trip comments.

I have been to NYC once as a child which was a perfect visit. Twice as an adult and I found it too big and too crowded for me.

However, the first time I went at age 12 was lots of fun. It was in the 1962 lots of wonderful plays, excellent food. This was when I had my first piece of real cheesecake. I'm told it took me one hour to finish it...and I am not a slow eater but oh my gosh it was the best!!
Next two times was in 1970 and 1986.

Honestly let me know when you get back from NYC b/c it's been a dream to go there and I want someone's personal opinion and all. I've heard it's dirty up there and that things are way too expensive esp. food and all.

Looking forward to your adventures and hearing all about it! Didn't realize it was coming up so soon! Great time to go - before the summer throngs!

I have to disagree about the NYC food - there is such diversity I don't know how you could fail to find something you love. It's a city full of beautiful food! Also, the people are pretty nice and helpful (when you need directions!). The taxi drivers are a little cranky though. I can pretty much tell you that the hotel room will be smaller than you expect. Space is at such a premium there! We stayed at the Westin in Times Square and it was small but really nice. HAVE FUN! Can't wait to see your pictures and hear all about the southern belle in NYC.

I was thinking all those same thoughts when I first went to NYC...and was wrong! Yeah! The people were the biggest surprise..so friendly, so helpful and nice. Good luck with the flight and the food and I do hope the weather is as nice as it is here! Happy Mother's Day too!

I'm with yaya. I was very pleasantly surprised by NYC. Going to a big city wouldn't usually be my choice of a vacation, but I can say I've enjoyed my experiences there. We had fun and ate a lot of good food. (and I am a beans and cornbread kind of girl too). Hope your flight is a very smooth one because I understand that fear.

We're in Bethlehem, Pa for the night.... and I was telling Gary on the way down that NY is one place I've never been that I'd like to visit. It's not too far from here... but that will be another trip. I can't wait to find out how everything measured up for you. Are you going to go to any Broadway play? Have fun!!

I've never been to NYC myself. But you have it right on Chicago. Train station was a fright to me. I don't get mad but after being moved and displaced by so many people the last person almost got a mouth full from me. But bless her heart. She was just trying to get us out of the way of a super rush. We took our Sr. girl scout to Chicago for our last fling together. We had a blast 2 adults and 4 Sr. Grads. Talk about fun. We all 6 pushed ourselves into a cab that we waved down. I think the driver was blown away. Great memories. Have more fun then you can hold inside. Let yourself be a child.

I KNOW you will have a wonderful time - Try Lindy's Cheesecake - we had a wonderful breakfast there also Sara Beth's right down from the Plaza and across from Central Park - very good, although pricey- but not really anymore than a really nice place here.
Blessings,
Ava
Have a great time! Enjoy the sights!

Have a safe trip and enjoy the experience. I went to NY a number of years ago for a long weekend (from the UK) and was absolutely shattered by the time we came home. I'm really glad I got to go and had a great time while I was there but didn't get to see as much as I thought I would. We did the open top bus ride, which was really interesting and took us to some places we wouldn't have seen otherwise, so I would recommend that. Have a wonderful time and I can't wait to see your photos when you get back :) xx
