What's a girl to do?

Shave?
Nair?
Wax?
Legs.
Under arms.
Bikini Line.
Upper Lip.
Chin.
Eyebrows.
Nose. (sad, but true)
Boob hair? YUK!

It seems  in 1915 Harper's Bazaar magazine
told women,  "The Woman of Fashion says
the underarm must be
as smooth as the face".
And so it began . . .

Clean shaven legs were soon to follow,
"what may have put the issue over the top
was the famous WWII pinup of Betty Grable displaying her awesome gams."

Perhaps we should all throw away
our razors and trash our Nair.
Ya think?

I guess not.

I was 12 yr. old when I began the
de-hairing routine.

How old were you?

I was about 12 also. Seems right to me. Never bothered me at all. It's just something I do, like brushing my teeth. No biggy. I've know plenty that resisted, but not this old gal.

I was a couple months shy of my 12th birthday. Wish I could afford to be lasered!

My well-meaning mother (meaning she was well determined her daughter was not going to grow up and be attractive to boys), told me that if I shaved my legs it would make the hair grow back thicker. Being a smart (as in not gullible) girl who wanted boys to think I was cute and not plain as white bread, I shaved them anyway. Now that I am of a certain age, hair is no longer an issue ANYWHERE! Just another senior citizen discount, LOL!

Ninny,I agree, there were some things my mother did not share with me and the hair thing was one of them. I was about 12 too. I always say I was a hippie for the fashions only, because when the "back to nature" thing happened, I kept on shaving.

I've never waxed anything. I had a girlfriend describe her experience in the bikini kind, between the waxing and the tweezing, I've never laughed so hard.

Hi, I just discovered your blog and am loving it because it makes me laugh, plus it brings back memories...like when I was 13 and wanted to shave my legs and underarms and my mother told me "NO!" I was too young, despite my whining that "everyone else is doing it." So, being conniving, I went to the drugstore and bought Nair applying it liberally to legs and armpits. The next morning I went to school, took off my coat at my locker and smelled a horrible smell. I had no clue that it was the Nair, which apparently I hadn't washed completely off. Or maybe it isn't made to be used on armpits. Ah, the tales of puberty!
