Suckers!

Most of our 4th of July celebration was indoors,
but when we ventured out to watch the fireworks in the evening, these nasty Suckers found me.  My ankles and calves got the worst abuse and I've been itching and then scratching ever since.  I've even had trouble sleeping at night due to the itching.

This has been my best friend
for the past couple of days.

Thinking back to when I was a child.
I played outside a lot and got lots of bites.  We'd never even heard of Benedryl.  Mom always had us rub a bit of stick deodorant over our bites when they itched.   If Grandma decided we had chiggers rather than mosquitos she would make a paste of baking soda and water to smear onto the bite.  It was thought to help with chigger bites and any type of sting.  Lots of remedies that didn't include actual medicine.

What are your remedies for bites?
Do they work?

I haven't saw that spray here in our Canadian stores, we are so slow to get new products, and we just use baking soda and water, although I have heard meat tenderizer works, never tried it, it just seems a bit creepy tenderizing arms and legs,

What was that stuff from Avon, Skin So Soft? It smelled awful, but people swore by it. I think it smelled so awful the pests didn't come near.

I think it's been too cold here for mosquitoes.....at least I haven't been bothered by any. I usually don't get bitten up too badly. Good luck!

We would use calamine lotion on our bites. I used that on my girls too. I hate mosquitoes....they spoil late night fun. I have heard of pinning Bounce dryer sheets to your clothes and that helps keep them away. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

We also used Skin So Soft, only my sister loved the smell of it. Whew! What a stench.

For some reason, I don't get a lot of bites like G does. It's just that sweet people get bit more!

We have those here in Missouri and we use clear fingernail polish. It prevents air from getting to it and stops the itch.

We haven't been bothered by Mosquitos as much as we have by chiggers and it sounds as though we are suffering similarly. My DH had to make a trip to the doctor because his chigger bites were so bad. We have the Benadryl and a bunch of other remedies, including a prescription for a topical ointment and antibiotic from the doctor. Still scratching. Yuck! Staying inside as much as possible. We had professionals spray the yard, we used diatomaceous earth on the yard, and also sulphur.
This was all probably much more than you wanted to know. Hope you stay away from those pesky blood suckers!

I'm lucky, mosquitos don't seem to like me, but they love my hubby. We usually buy this stuff called sting-eze. We found it Walmart in the camping section years ago. That's for after bites, before you get the bites, we typically use some stuff called Cactus juice - works great for biting flies, no see ums and mosquitos. Hugs!!

Baking soda/water for bee stings. Clear fingernail polish for the chiggers. Dab it on the spot. It kills them, no itch.

The mosquitoes love me, anytime we go outside in an area where they are, I'm bit all over. I'll have to remember the Benadryl spray, never tried it before.

When we were little, we took a hot bath before bedtime. This seemed to numb the bites until we could fall asleep. Works for me...

We haven't been having too much of a problem with these suckers this year.. but the bees and flies have been crazy! I have always heard skin so soft deters insects from biting.

Mosquitoes are at their worst right now it seems. My husband and I both are covered. We get a new one every day from being in the backyard with our dog. I have that same spray and it does help.
I'm a new follower and I really enjoy reading your blog!

My son suffers mightily when he gets bit by mosquitoes. I have found that dousing them with peroxide and waiting for it to bubble and dry THEN covering them with capsazin or ben-gay...those things burn out the itch...it helps them shrink and go away within 2 days.
