Look what I found at Goodwill today!

YIKES!

It looks sort of coffin-esque in this photo.

Yes. It is a one-armed find;

a bit pitiful and sad.

At first I thought it had lost an arm,

but on closer inspection I could

tell it was born this way.

Poor thing, it's obviously had a rough life,

that said, I fell in love with the screened portion

of the door.

And who doesn't need 3 extra

shelves for storage?

It was a steal for $14.99!

OK, maybe not a steal

but I had just come from the dentist

and I still had the glow of nitrous in my head.

I think I'm gonna turn Princess loose on this

and teach her how to refinish it - homeschool
and all that stuff. It would be a great project for her

~~and free labor for me~~.

What am I gonna do with it?

I.Have.No.Idea.

Got any ideas?

Mardi Gras!

Welcome February!

Welcome Mardi Gras Season!

Before I moved to Louisiana I always associated Mardi Gras

with the stories of bare-chested women

grabbing for beads.

After moving here I found that Mardi Gras

is BIG across the entire state.

It's something fun thrown into the midst

of winter.

The Mardi Gras parades in our area are much tamer

than the ones in New Orleans that get so much

media attention.

And who doesn't like all the glitter and glitz

that goes with the season?!

I love to drive through neighborhoods

and see all the wreaths hanging

on front doors.

There is no such thing

as too much or too gawdy when it comes

to Mardi Gras.

"More is Better" seems to be

the rule.

Oh yea, and there's always,

"Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez"
Let the good times roll!

which means we're another month

closer to Spring! We've had a

but I'll take it.

Da' Plane. Da' Plane.

~~I know absolutely nothing about airplanes~~

but I certainly won't let that stop me from
telling you all about them...I live very close

to a big Air Force base, the one where

they took President Bush on 9/11.

The major work at this base is the

maintenance of the HUGE B52

Bombers.

They are monstrous in size,

yet when I see them fly, in my mind

I refer to them as the "Gentle Giants".

Heaven only knows they are not gentle,

but as they slice through the sky they deceivingly

appear so beautifully graceful.

Yesterday, as I took my walk, the planes

were constantly overhead. If I squinted just right

and looked into the northern sky I could see the

plane as a tiny dot, then in a matter of seconds

it would be overhead circling the city before landing.

Then, another would appear and do exactly as

the one before it had done.

It was a beautiful sight to watch.

Do you see it?

If you look in the middle of the photo,

about a 1/2 inch above the tree tops

you can see it as a tiny dot.

Then soon it was overhead.

One after one they came.

I soon lost count of how many

I saw. There were many.

Rumor has it they are preparing to deploy.

From time to time we see Air Force One in the skies.

They must come here for maintenance too.

One never knows if it is the "actual" Air Force One,

or one of the "look alikes".

Looking skyward from the ground

Air Force One appears to be snow white in color.

It is beautiful against a clear blue sky.

I most certainly appreciate and thank the

United States Air Force

for providing entertainment

as I strutted my stuff around the park.

I saw all those gorgeous young pilots

givin' me the eye from those planes.

Those sweet young men in these

southern skies surely must love them

some SWEET TEA!

Are you as Smart as a 16 yr Old?

When Rachel Ray interviews her guests she often asks them
the question, "If you could go back in time and
give advice to yourself when you were 16
what advice would you give?"

It's a bit of a complicated question but when
I think of it I quickly think of things
I wish someone would have told me
when I was 16.

Have more Fun. You'll never again be as free of responsibility in your entire life.
Revel in your beauty. It's a gift of youth, and it will fade.
Don't be shy. Jump right into the middle of things - everyone is learning at this time.
Realize that boys are just as nervous and curious about girls as you are about boys.
Try new things. Some great times are found outside one's Comfort Zone.
Stand up for yourself. Sometimes it is necessary.
Take notice of your parents and remember them as they are now. They are in their prime and you will cherish these memories some day.
Erase "fear" from your vocabulary.
Take time to learn some basic life skills at home, ie do the laundry, simple cooking, etc.
Not everyone is meant to be your friend. Don't waste time trying to make someone who doesn't like you (girls & boys) change their mind.
Be discreet with your heart - some people will not keep your secrets.
Drive carefully.
Honor God. You'll never regret doing this.
Look around you and learn from other peoples mistakes.
Break a few rules so you will learn the importance of boundaries.

When we get new neighbors
I take them Banana Bread.
So, today I baked one for them . . .

and one for us.
Yes, I gave them the larger,
prettier one.

I have only moved from one state to another
one time in my life.
After making that move I appreciated
the welcome gifts from other
neighbors sooooo much.
I vowed to be a better neighbor
once I knew how it felt to move
away from everyone and everything
I had ever known.
To quote Oprah ~~and I hate to do that~~,
"when I knew better, I did better."

I did a little online fact-finding about dreams.

Here's a bit of what I found.

"A full 12% of people dream exclusively in black and white. The remaining number dream in full color. "

"People also tend to have common themes in dreams, which are situations relating to school, being chased, running slowly/in place, sexual experiences, falling, arriving too late, a person now alive being dead, teeth falling out, flying, failing an examination, or a car accident."

Me, personally?

I usually dream in black and white;

seldom in color.

I tend to have reoccuring themes in my dreams.

When I was a child I had many dreams

of being chased by mean dogs.

When I was in my 20's I dreamed

of being in a falling elevator,

over and over and over. . .

During prenancy(s) I often dreamed

about holding my unborn child.

These were sweet dreams

but I never saw the child's face

or knew the sex of the child.

Now, I sometimes dream of my grown children

being "kids" again. . .

My Dad passed 5 years ago.

I have had several dreams about him -

In each of the dreams he is healthy

and strong. The dreams are always

happy and I awake comforted.

We moved from Oklahoma to Louisiana

almost 9 years ago.

Since then I have frequent, reoccuring dreams

of being lost and unable to find my

way back home.

Sometimes I'm lost in a big city,

other times in the country.

Sometimes I'm walking

and other times I'm driving,

but always alone and searching.

Funny thing is, I love living here.

I feel "at home" here.

Bizzare.

I'm told that dreaming of flying

is a very common theme,

as is being naked in a group of people.

I only remember one dream in which

I was flying and have never dreamed

of being naked, at least that I can remember.

It seems if my hair is cut too short

After going with Princess yesterday to get her driver's license, we came home to find this

in the KITCHEN FLOOR!!

I called Mr. who was only 5 min. from home.

Then I stood and stared at the snake so in case he moved (the snake, not Mr.) I would know where he had gone. Mr. came home, killed and disposed of the unwanted houseguest.
"Yes, Mr. is a Rock Star!"

I was jittery and jumpy all evening. I even had to wait a bit to collect myself before I could go back into the kitchen again.

Later I was relaxing in the recliner and Mr. came through and tossed this into my lap -

my faux snake skin bracelet!
Yes.He.Did.

It startled me.

I freaked!!!!!

"Mr. is no longer a Rock Star!"

Note: We live in Louisiana and we live

near a bayou. We have no idea

how the snake got inside unless he

somehow managed to slither in

when I was painting the front door

last week. Not sure what type of snake

it was but from the marking on it's head

Mr. feels it was a poisonous snake.

This has caused me to go beyone jittery into

a full blown PANIC mode.

Red Letter Day!

After.

Yesterday was a RED LETTER DAY – Princess got her driver’s license! We were at the DMV at 1:00, as we had planned. The usually calm-and-collected Princess was extremely nervous. The line was long. After waiting her turn she was told she needed her birth certificate. (We thought since she had her photo driver’s permit that would not be an issue. Wrong!) Soooooooo, we made the 40 min round trip home and back. By then the line was short and the process moved along smoothly. Driving to the DMV she drove ~~awful, scary, horrendous~~ a little below her capability. I was nervous for her, and rightly so. When it was all said and done she felt she did not drive her best on the test. He went over the test results with us and she did have some real “goof-ups”, but still scored high enough to pass. On the way home she drove perfectly!

The only thing I remember about taking my driving test is that I was very nervous and we had to drive a long distance to get to the testing center.

Now you WON”T BELIEVE what happened when we got home – but that's a story for tomorrow. For now, I'm off to get a Root Canal. I'm just a girl who knows how to have a good time.

Do you remember a couple of weeks ago

when I posted (HERE) about planting

seeds for spinach and lettuce?

Well, truth is this isn't my little garden.

I saw this garden yesterday when Princess

and I went to walk at a local park.

This house/garden flanked the walking path.

Admittedly, I have "Garden Envy".

Every day I check my little piece of dirt
but "nada" hint of green
is to be found.
Hmmmm.

These are the only greens at my house

at the moment.

It was a breezy, 74* here yesterday - the perfect
day for a walk. I enjoyed having Princess

and Boudxy join me. What a beautiful,
mild, January day!

The "need to know"

Sometimes I look into the sky and ponder the greatness of it all. I think about those who have come before and those who will come after. I marvel at God’s handiwork and the beauty of it all. I’ve read that dogs see things only in black and white. I can’t imagine a world without color.

Then on other days, when I’m not thinking nearly as deep, I still wonder about things. I think I’m just naturally ~~nosey~~ curious; I have the “need to know”. Today I’m wondering why so many storage unit facilities are being built all around town. Who uses these things? And, what the heck are they storing in these units? Are the units mainly used by businesses or rather by individuals? Do you use them? Maybe I need one and I don’t even know it!
Surely someone in blogland can enlighten me on this issue. Of all the people I know, only one of them use a storage unit. This persons husband is a builder and they use a unit to store furniture for their model homes when the furniture is not in use. Makes sense to me.
Maybe everyone who has a clean garage and/or an unused attic is using a storage unit for their “stuff”. Perhaps everyone else knows something I don’t know. I’m bordering on a bit of paranoia here, so clue me in. Please.

Sync/Sink

I sync my ipad.

I "sink" my dishes. . .
(before they go into the dishwasher).

I really don't mind the dishes,
the cooking,
the dusting,
the vaccuming,
the bed-making,
and the laundry,
BUT

I hate cleaning the bathrooms.
Blech! Ewwww!

Sometimes I pay Princess to clean them.
She always needs the money,
so it's a win/win.

Wouldn't it be great to be able
to plug the bathroom into a can of Lysol
and "sync" it to clean itself?!
I know, "I'm BRILLIANT!".
QVC, here I come!

There it was.

Right in the middle of all the junk mail -

a letter to me!

It was from our youngest Granddoll,
8 yr. old, Grace.

It was a good, juicy, newsy, type letter.

I was instructed NOT to put it on the fridge.

It contained information of a private matter

concerning school and her teacher.

It also contained the lyrics to an

original song.

It ALSO contained this beautiful piece of original
art work. I was told I COULD display this
on the fridge. I'm so thankful I got the OK
to show this as it brightens my heart each
time I see it.

I spent yesterday in a medicated

semi-coma. Mr. bought me

mashed potatoes & gravy

for dinner. Princess took phone calls, etc.

I took medicine to help with the pain

and whined a lot (when I wasn't sleeping).

I was once a Girl Scout

and I have the badges to prove it.

This is not my uniform

but I wore one like it.

I proudly wore it to school

on the days of our troop meeting.

I remember Mom and I struggling

to tie the kerchief into a square knot

each time I wore it.

To help other people at all times,

To obey the Girl Scout Laws."

to show our success to the world.

Spinach, and Lettuce, and Greens, Oh My!

At first glance this simply looks like dirt.
But not to me.

What I see when I look at the dirt is visions of the Lettuce & Spinach
I planted there yesterday.

The weather has been great so I am hopeful to be eating
greens from our own garden very soon.
I do hope that our Guard Squirrel, "Squirrelly Sue"can keep the rabbits away!

I'll be watching and waiting for the seeds to sprout.

I am loving this beautiful weather, so with temps
reaching 70 I thought it was time to paint the front door black.
I had bought a good brand of paint, but it just didn't seem to be going on as smoothly as the last time I painted it. Still, I finished the job and all seemed well.

I gathered my paintbrushes to clean them in the sink, which is what I normally do. The minute I put the brush under water I knew something was wrong.

I scrubbed those brushes but the paint did not budge and soon my hands were painted black - sticky black. Then I realized the paint guru who had sold me the paint had sold me paint that WAS NOT the water clean-up type. My two new brushes were ruined and my hands were black and sticky, even after pouring fingernail polish remover all over them. Mr. arrived and sprayed my hands with WD40 and the paint began to come of. Whew! Next time I'll be sure to ask for "water clean-up' paint, before I buy.

Still, I got'er done!
Front door painted.
Spinach & Lettuce planted.

And, I even managed to walk a mile and 1/2 around the park.
Not bad?!

I actually liked his essays

and enjoyed hearing him read them.

his "eyebrows" live on.

And they live on ME!!

All of sudden my eyebrows have taken

on a life of their own.

They grow quickly

and the new ones are wirey

and often GRAY.

(sobbing into my crying towel now)

I pluck.

I tweeze.
I thin them.
I even shave them a tiny bit.

Sometimes I think I can even
see them breathing.

I don't want to become paranoid,

but sometimes I worry

I learned the song from listening to
him sing it again, and again, and again...
He said his Dad had taught him the song
when he was a child. I'm thinking it is
obviously a children's song and I'm
curious as to it's origin.

Yesterday an acquaintance posted this on her FB page:

"(dad) just brought the big boys (ages 5 & 7, I think) to the shooting range for the first time so that they can learn to shoot their new guns. I am glad that they get to make fun memories together but it makes this Mama a little nervous."

To which I replied: "????? ewwww!"

This was quickly followed by a post from another
acquaintance: "My boys have been shooting guns since they were very young. I am VERY thankful their dad invested many hours into their lives teaching them safety with guns, how to shoot and handle a gun properly. It would make me more nervous if he had not. Not only did they learn about guns & how to shoot, they learned life lessons with their dad and spent many hours bonding as father & son. I am excited for your guys, and for you as mom. These times are priceless! I promise it's more than shooting guns. When your boys are grown they will tell you "all" they learned during those times with their dad. When the time is right & you can, you should join them ;)"

There were other posts to follow which ALL "sided' with this train of thought".

I felt a bit attacked and posted:
"I'm thinking there are lots of ways for fathers and sons to bond. We have 2 grown sons and when they were kids they spent lots of "father and son" time on the soccer field, at the ball park, in scouting, working around the house, bicycling, playing tennis, school projects, etc. None of this included guns, except for shooting cans with a BB gun. Just some other things to consider. I have a very personal story of heartbreak involving guns so admittedly I could be biased. But, just saying "there are options" that provide rich opportunities for children and their parents to make lasting memories and learn "life lessons". Certainly there is nothing wrong with going to a shooting range with a parent - no criticism intended. But if it makes you uncomfortable . . ."

I live in Louisiana and this is a very common sport here.
I understand the 2nd ammendment and the right to bear arms.
I understand hunting for things you will eat.
I understand shooting at gun ranges.
I understand teaching/learning the proper
way to handle a gun.

But what I don't understand is shooting
simply to kill. Why kill a living, breathing, being
just because you can?
I understand war and the atrocities
that go along with protecting
and keeping us free.
My Dad served in WWII

and when he came home from the war
he never wanted a gun in our house.
While there is certainly the right to bear arms
there is also the right to NOT bear arms.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT when people
post photos on FB which show their 8 yr old
child proudly holding up a dead animal
they have shot.
Nope. I don't get that
and never will.

Mister's favorite movie is, "It's a Wonderful ~~Wife~~ Life". If you knew Mister you would say it's the "perfect fit" for him. We watch it every year on Christmas Eve. We've seen it so many times that we can recite many of the lines as we watch.

This hangs in our dining room to remind us,

Spoiler: this is a bit gross!

Many of you asked questions about my THUMB.

When I snipped off the end of my thumb

it would not stop bleeding so I made a

trip to the ER. The cut was not straight

across my thumb, but rather it scooped inward

in the middle of the thumb, cup-like.

The Doctor cleaned it then put something

on it to help stop the bleeding.

THEN filled the whole scooped out section

with Neosporin. He told me I was to do this

each day and showed me how to wrap it.

He also told me

MY THUMB WOULD GROW BACK!
He showed me his thumb,

telling me he had done the exact same thing

during the summer with shrub clippers.

Not only did my thumb grow back,

it didn't even scar.

AMAZING!!

Be sure to have Santa leave some Neosporin
in your stocking.

Last weekend was Mister's belated b-day trip

to "The Big D" - Dallas.

It was a "Need to Know" themed weekend

so he had no idea what we had planned

It cost me $80 to have a Chimney Sweep

clear my "on the top of the house"

dryer vent and install a screen over it.

He tells me birds that do this

are migrating birds. They have left for the

winter but will return each Spring.

He tells me once they nest,

I just heard something which could enable so many people to have a more joyous Christmas. I understand the idea is not for everyone, BUT it could help many people. Lots of families, especially young families with multiple children, have a hard time during the holiday season. What do you buy for the children? How much do you buy? When have you bought enough? When is it too much? Do we load the credit card and worry about it later or do we stay on budget? I remember these times within my own family.

Today my children are grown, except for our youngest, who is 17. I'm thankful we don't have the financial restraints of many young families. Still, there is the temptation to over-buy and "spoil" (I don't like that word, but couldn't think of a better one) our daughter and our granddolls. . . A friend passed along an idea she heard on the radio and I thought it was GREAT!

3. Something to wear.
4. Something to read.

I think whoever came up with this idea is BRILLIANT!!

I wish I had heard about this before I had shopped for Princess. I soooooo want to do this! (It would be great for birthdays too).

I know that many of my Bloggy friends don't have small children, so this is not an issue, but let me encourage you to share the "Four for Christmas" thought with anyone you know who is having a hard time balancing money and/or shopping time. I'm sure we won't be hearing about this on TV as stores want our business, but it's a thought that needs to be heard. It would sure take the pressure off many people if this became a trend. Just sayin . . .

Also, if you'd like some great ideas for your children or your grandkids go HERE (it's a little lengthy but if you look toward the end of the post you'll find fun ideas to help keep CHRIST in Christmas with the kids in your life (and they're broken into age groups!).

Who says "you can't teach an old dog new tricks"? I find my heart is changing in the way I choose to celebrate Christmas. I long for the "inner joy" that comes from truly experiencing Christmas. I want to feel it, smell it, touch it. and live it - not be so tired from doing all the "gotta do's" that I can't really enjoy the season. I'm trying some new things this year.

Stingy Saturdays

Mister and I seldom plan anything we "have to do" on Saturdays. We are stingy with our Saturdays and consider it family time; only ocassionally does something come up that we will commit to. Last Saturday was one of those times. We went to see a hard-working, nice, young man be honored as an Eagle Scout. He has been dating Princess for a year or so and we have become well acquainted with him. It was a pleasure to see him reach this goal in his life.

I went shopping and ended up

Mister and I went shopping.

We shopped with a plan.

He dropped me off at Hobby Lobby

while he went to the bookstore.

I was to call him when I wanted

to be picked up.

I LOVE Hobby Lobby.

I shopped from one end of the

store to the next.

So much "eye candy" to enjoy!

I don't know how long I was in the

store - let's just say I was "focused".

Finally I had my finds in my buggie

and headed for the check-out lane.

While waiting in line I tried to

phone Mister to tell him

I was ready for "pick up".

Alas!

My phone was dead.

It would not call.

It would not text.

It was "Day-ed",

as we say in the south.

Woe is me. I was stranded.

We lived in a small house when I was

growing up. Each year we had a

Christmas tree placed on a table

in the corner of our living room.

It was a thing of beauty with all

the bobbles, tinsel and lights.

It was not until I married Mister

that I was indoctrinated into

the B.I.B. (Bigger is Better)

school of thought.

So we had a BIG TREE

for many, many years.

HOWEVER . . .

this year I questioned the B.I.B theory.

And we are rockin' a

small tree.

Butterfinger pie. I've posted the un-recipe below.

It is more of a "method" than a recipe,

and the only thing you need to remember

is to work quickly once you begin

and not to over-fill the crust.

Enjoy!

Butterfinger Ice Cream Pie

Oreo Cookie Pie Crust (store-bought)

1 qt. vanilla ice cream, softened

3.5 oz Butterfinger candy, crushed

I put the candy in the Food Processor

and pulse it a couple of times, but

you could simply put it in a Baggie

and pound with a hammer - just go easy,

as you still want some small chunks to remain.

Mix the candy with the softened ice cream.

Scoop this into the chocolate Oreo crust.

QUICKLY put it into the freezer to set.

Lick the bowl, the spoon,

and your fingers - you know you

want to!!

*Serve, drizzled with Hot Fudge topping.

Boudxy was glad to see us when we picked

him up at the Vet's. He is feeling good.

We are to take him to the Vet's tomorrow

to get his stitches removed.

(I've never had a dog who had stitches

to be removed after being neutered.

This was the first Thanksgiving in several years

that I have had all my "little chicks"

with me for Thanksgiving.

Though the dessert table was brimming

with all types of pies, cakes and cookies,

the sweetest part of the holiday

was having all four of my babies

under the same roof.

The Other "First" Thanksgiving

I remember the first Thanksgiving

I spent with Mister's family.

I was nineteen and we were engaged.

This would be the first time I would meet

his extended family and I was

nervous, wanting to make a good impression.

Mister's family was large and they were LOUD!

(my family was small and ~~civilized~~ quiet)

The meal was the usual fare

one would expect for Thanksgiving,

with just one exception.

His family routinely included

homemade dumplin's as part

of their Thanksgiving meal.

I didn't know people ate

dumplin's on Thanksgiving.

Hmmmmmm.

Does your family do that?

I've wondered about this

for all these years.

Also, when Mister's family gathered, the

dinner conversation was quite rowdy

compared to what I was accustomed to.

I clearly remember the table-talk that day

I worked around the house today

doing laundry and such then
decided to go shopping.

Buying something new to wear for
Thanksgiving seemed

easier than bringing my winter

clothes in from ~~the garage~~ storage.

It was a bad decision.

Going shopping at 3:00 in the afternoon
when one's blood sugar is low is not
the smartest thing to do.

I had a full blown hot flash while looking through
racks and racks of sweaters and coats.

I live in Louisiana and cannot for the
life of me figure out who they are
selling all these sweaters, coats and

knee-high boots too. It's HOT here.
We seldom have really cold weather.
The evenings and nights get cold but usually
the weather warms with the dawn and
the days are mild.
I wore a coat 3 times last winter.

I pulled a few light-weight items from
the rack and ducked into a dressing room.
I fanned myself to cool down before I

tried on anything.

I miss my young body that stayed slim
and toned with no effort. It's only right
that it has left me since I didn't properly
appreciate it. I weighed 115 lbs the
day I weighed in at the hospital before
giving birth to my 8 lb 8 oz son.I digress.

I bought a couple of things
and waddled home.

Princess is at the Mall with her friends

and Mister is at an Investment
Club meeting which means I have a couple
of hours to be "home alone".

This is how I roll -

Dinner - dipped straight from the can

and put into a coffee cup

then served at room temperature

along side a few potato chips,

a small bit of diet Coke and a juice glass of

hard lime-ade.

I like to live on the edge . . . .

Princess and I worked in the garage yesterday cleaning, sorting, and purging. It was brutal. We were both achy, sweaty and oh-so-tired at the end of the day. But it looked so much better when we were finished. I put this chore on the list of things I do every three years, right beneath a Colonoscopy.

Today the Direct TV guy came and hooked up our bedroom TV that has been moved to a different wall in the bedroom redo. Mister doesn't like change. He says the bedroom feels "different". DUH! After all this work it had better feel (and look) different. He will be much happier now that his TV is working again. In just a few days I will be posting the finished photos of the room. How WILL you sleep between now and then with the anticipation?

Now I need to get someone out here to work on the Dryer.

Today I'm sorting my thoughts.
Consider yourself warned.
It will probably be a bumpy ride,
so buckle up.

"I hate to admit some of these things,
but I'm going to."

I love every day and consider each one a blessing.
That said, from now till the first of the year is my
least favorite time. I know how that sounds.
It sounds like Bah-Humbug,
but that's not really the case. It's just that this
time of the year is such a jumble to me.

Thanksgiving.
The good.
I LOVE getting together with our family!
I don't like that we have to drive to Okla
to do this.

Mister AND Princess have a Nov. 30th b-day.
The good: I love celebrating them!
I don't like the fact that we no sooner
get home from Thanksgiving and I
immediately must get into party mode.
It's really a time & energy crunch
to do all the prepping & baking
so close to Thanksgiving,
though this is getting easier as
Princess gets older. Still, it's hard
to do their birthdays like I want
because I'm rushed.

Then, once their birthdays are over
it's time to put away the Thanksgiving
decor and begin the process of getting
out all the Christmas decorations
and putting the tree up, yada, yada, yada.
Shame on me, but I don't enjoy putting
up and/or taking down "Christmas"
in my house.

Then there's another 6 hr drive to and from
Oklahoma the week before Christmas.
The big payoff is getting to see my
family again, though I absolutely hate the drive.

Then it's home for Christmas
and time to begin the process of picking up
and putting all the Christmas decor away.

It's the busy-ness that I don't enjoy.

I'm thinking of simply buying a small tree
this year, but that would mean not
using all the lovely ornaments I've collected
through the years. Don't know how I'd feel
about that. I love these ornaments as they
are the ones my children have made and I
am sentimentally attached to them. And
deep down this sort of means that I admit
that we are getting older and "times they
are a changing". Silly, huh?!

As I read over this I feel it sounds petty.
Sometimes honesty is petty.
I think I mostly feel "crowded".
There are seemingly too many occasions
crunched together too closely.

This is how I wish I could do Christmas:
I want to sit with my Mom (she's 82)
and not be hurried.
I want to bake Christmas cookies
and sip Red hot Cider
with Mister and Princess.
I want to hug my Granddolls and really
get to talk with them and share their
joy of the season. I want to meet my
son's new girlfriend and see how
they interact with each other.
I want to watch old home movies.
I want to put on Christmas music
and sip wine as I wrap gifts.
I want to sit with my oldest daughter and
have some one-on-one time before it's midnight
and we're too exhausted to enjoy
each other's company.
I want to find some sort of gift
that Mister would really enjoy.
I want to see a funny Christmas movie
in the theater. I want to spend some
stress-free time with my sister and her family.
I want my youngest son to
be with all the family and really
feel loved and valued. I want to watch
"Merry Christmas Charlie Brown".
I want to really celebrate Jesus birthday
and "feel" the joy of the season.

Good, bad or whatever,
this is what's on my mind today.

Saturday the weather was great
and the time was right,
so Mister and I loaded
Boudxy into the car and
headed for the wild unknown.

It was the perfect time for
Boudxy to have a free run
of the wide open spaces.
With camera in hand
we unleashed him for
his romp and prepared to
take some fun photos.

Chaos was soon to follow.
Boudxy ran and ran and ran
and ran and ran . . .
We hollored.
We cajoled.
We promised treats.
We threatened.
He was totally undaunted
and continued AWOL.

He ran beyond the field and found his way to
a subdivion, went through a fence
and ran the streets as I followed far behind.
There was a time he was completely out of sight.
Finally I spotted him again and was able
to trap him between two houses and a fence.
The fun was over
and none of us were happy.

We.Will.Not.Ever.Do.This.Again.
Lesson learned.

No Boudxy,
you can't buy your way out of this one!

Sock-it-to-me!

We have two sock "fiends" in our family,
my Sister and my youngest Daughter (Princess).
They love socks.
All types, colors, and patterns.
They have yet to meet a sock
they didn't like.

The only far-out socks I wear are the fuzzy
house slipper type and that's just so
Princess can't claim them as her own
when they come out of the laundry!

were the highlight of the entire program,

but she was about 1/2 note off pitch last night

AND

she needs to fire her stylist

for putting her in the solid black, long-sleeved

jumpsuit, with the bell bottom pants.

The ~~Bank~~ (oops! Freudian slip) Band Perry won

in a couple of categories.

They are young.

They are cute.

And they CAN sang!

The sister wore a beautiful red dress

that looked absolutely stunning.

Her hair - now that's a different story.

She should get her money back from whoever

was responsible for the tacky

not-quite-a-do.

The good news is that she is so

darn cute that she looked good,

even with the bad hair!

Kenny Chesney & Allison Kraus sang.

My ears bleed when I hear Allison Kraus'

high pitched voice. This is just a personal

"thang" as I know lots of people LOVE

her voice; just not me!

Luke Bryan is a cute little Hottie!

I saw him on some program last year

and a stylist was trying to get him to

wear a gold chain necklace and Luke

didn't want to. . .Well something has

changed his mind along the way.

He came onto the stage wearing black

pants and shakin' his booty in a way that

would have made Elvis blush.

AND, the black pants had lights up the outside

seam of each pant leg
Yes they did!

He's very handsome and he can certainly

"shake his things".

Faith Hill sang.

Here she is a naturally beautiful person

and someone did weird things to her

hair that caused her to look much

older than she is. WHY?

Faith does her best when she simply

stands behind the microphone and sings, but instead
she ~~looked rediculous stomping and shaking off-beat~~

tried to dance at random times.

She is not a dancer. No doubt about that.

Sometimes being tall, having a wonderful body,

a beautiful face, and a sexy voice

Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley hosted the Award program for the 4th year. They did a great job of keeping the show moving and providing some good natured humor. I didn't count but I'd dare to guess that

Carrie made at least 6 dress changes during the program. Some of the dresses were beautiful but a couple of her choices were quite strange. Still, Carrie could wear a pillowcase and look FAN-TAS-TIC!

So good to see Glen Campbell, Kenny Loggins, and Lionel Ritchie.

It was a fun night sitting on my sofa watching and critiquing some of my very favorite people!

In fairness I must mention that Mister got to
see one of his Girlfriends - Jennifer Nettles.
She was ~~almost as pretty as me~~
gorgeous.
Mister loves we tall, beautiful,
talented, blonde, sexy types.
Jennifer and I have soooo much in common!

myself for long periods of time by

watching what people put into their

shopping buggies.

you can learn a lot about people

by their shopping habits and if

you're stuck in a long line

waiting. . .it's a great way to

quietly become acquainted with

other shoppers, in a bit of a

strange and judgemental way.

of TP, diapers, and macaroni:

for a daycare center".

Lots of Beer and wine products:

but we have made pretty good progress
for one week.

Nothing on the walls yet.
We still need window treatments & a bedskirt too.

and slipped into a warm bath.

but Johnny Appleseed

is a good friend of mine

and he gave me this great recipe
which is way too good
to keep to myself.

This recipe has only TWO (2) ingredients

and is a no-brainer to fix.

It is wonderful straight-from-the-pan

and needs no frosting,

however,

if you want to be a real Show-Off

you can top it with a dollop of Cool Whip

then sprinkle the Cool Whip with a tiny

bit of cinnamon.

Beautiful & Yummy!

Johnny Appleseed Cake

Ingredients:
   Duncan Hines Spice Cake Mix
   1 can Apple Pie Filling.

1. Combine the 2 ingredients
     (No water, No eggs, No oil)
2. Mix well with a mixer - batter will be very thick.
3. Pour into a greased/floured 9X13 pan

and bake according to directions on cake box.

Mind Confetti

Today I logged onto the computer to check my bank balance and totally drew a blank - couldn't remember my account number no matter how hard I tried. About 5 minutes later I remembered it again. What's that about??

Bought some new winter shoes and wore them for the first time today. I won't be sneaking up on anyone as they are so NOISEY!! Princess yelled from her bedroom, "Why are you so noisey?". For what I paid for them I deserve to stomp around and make a commotion.

I've had four bright orange envelopes on my counter now for two weeks just waiting to be mailed. Then it dawned on me today that I should have mailed them Wed. Oops! Made a mad dash to the post office. Sure hope the three Granddolls and my Mom get their treat in time for Monday.

On the drive home from the post office I watched a cloud front move in. One of the clouds looked just like a woman's Va-Jay-Jay. Really. It did. I wondered if everyone else driving thought the same thing.

Tomorrow we are painting our master bedroom. I've brought home handfulls of pain sample cards and two actual samples of paint,this week, smeared them onto the wall and not liked either one. Today I took a deep breath and bought 2 gallons of paint and primer; I simply chose the color from the paint sample cards in the store and we will go with it and I.Will.Love.It. Regardless of how it turns out I.Will.Love.It. because sometimes that is just what you have to do and this is one of those times. "HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY"

Princess is in my bedroom masking off the moulding, prepping for our painting project. Wonder how long it will take her to notice that I am not helping and am on the computer? *tee hee

Marijuana Brownies, anyone?

Marijuana Brownies

Princess recently got a job working for a local retail store. Two weeks into her employment she was faced with an ethical dilemma. One of the girls got angry with the boss and told her Princess she was gonna bring some brownies to work "to get the boss high", but not to worry she'd be sure to only "doctor up" 3 of the brownies and the rest would be "ok to eat".

Now, what to do?

Does Princess tell the boss or simply keep quiet so said girl won't know she "ratted" on her? She had two days to think about it before her next time scheduled to work. She stepped up and told the boss, only to be told the boss had been warned of the same thing by three other girls who worked there. There are many lessons to be learned when one works and I think Princess just learned her first one...Now the rest of the story...

The offender was scolded and allowed to keep her job.
(she actually had not brought the brownies yet)
